Types of finials and caps

A decorative finial can be a ball, an urn, a pineapple, a spire or a custom ornament, and a cap can be flat, pyramidal or layered with moldings. Post caps cover the top of a post and shed water, while a post base hides the foot and gives a post a classical stance. Column covers exterior and a porch column wrap can be supplied with matching caps and bases, so a plain structural post becomes a decorative column. A column pedestal stand can raise a column above a wall or balustrade.

Materials and fit

Each piece is CNC-cut from high-density EPS and covered with a polyurea hard coat. The coating resists moisture, UV and cracking, so caps do not split or rot at the end grain as wood does, and the light weight allows installation on tall posts without heavy equipment. For a house with columns, matching finials add rhythm along a porch, a balustrade or a fence line. Tell us the post size, for example 4x4, 6x6 or 8x8, and we make the cap and base to fit.

Developers and builders use finials on gate piers, entrance monuments, pergola posts and railing ends, where many identical pieces are needed. CNC cutting keeps every ball, urn or spire the same size, so a long row reads evenly. Caps can be supplied with a recessed seat for easy fitting, and the same finish can match stucco, stone or painted wood on the surrounding architecture.

The same pieces work as fence post finials, post toppers on gate piers, outdoor finials on balustrades and stair finials on interior newel posts. Ball finial post caps and custom post caps can be made for common sizes such as 4x4 post finials, and interior post caps can match the stair or railing around them.
