Architectural column kits are made to a dimensioned shop drawing. Send us the column height, the shaft diameter or square width, the post or structure behind it and a photo of the porch or facade, and we draw the shaft, base and capital with every joint marked. Round columns, square columns and pilasters can be drawn in one set. You approve the drawing and finish before any foam is cut, so the column fits your opening. If your architect needs a particular detail, mention it in the brief.
Application
Column kits suit new construction, renovation and facade upgrades of homes, townhouses, hotels, retail and office buildings. Exterior columns are most often used on front porches, entrances, balconies and garage fronts, around a structural post or against the wall as pilasters. Each kit is a lightweight alternative to stone, concrete or solid wood porch columns, so tall shafts can be lifted into place by a small crew without a crane, and one classical style can run across an entire building.
Installation and documents
The kit ships as numbered pieces: base, shaft sections and capital. They are fixed around the supporting post or to the wall with adhesive and mechanical fasteners, the joints are sealed, and the column is finished with a stucco base coat or paint. A column installation guide with layout, joint and sealing notes comes with every order. Structural support, anchoring, flashing and local code requirements stay with your architect and installer.
Customization
Options include height, shaft diameter, square or round section, straight or tapered shaft with entasis, fluted or smooth surface, and the style of base and capital, including Doric, Ionic and Corinthian orders. Pilasters can be made flat or half-round to match the columns. Finishes include smooth, stucco-ready, stone-look or painted. Columns can also be made to match an existing building from photos or drawings. Send a sketch or a photo of the porch with dimensions and we propose a design.
Payment
The price of your column kit depends on the height, diameter, shaft type, the style of base and capital, and the number of columns. We accept PayPal, Visa and Mastercard. The payment schedule is written in your quote, and production begins after the drawing is approved and the order is confirmed. Freight is quoted with the order, so send the column count with your request.
Exchange and return
Every column kit is made to order from your approved drawing, so it cannot be returned or exchanged for a change of mind. Please inspect the shipment on delivery, note any damage on the carrier’s paperwork and photograph it before unpacking. If a piece arrives damaged or does not match the approved drawing, contact us right away and we will repair or remake it. Our products carry a 20-year warranty.
